Tenuta La Ghiaia is a Winery Estate made up by 5 hectares of organic vineyard located in Colli Di Luni DOC production area.
The wines of the estate come from native varieties grown on an ancient riverbed, for that reason the soil is rich in river debris and gravel. Thanks to this presence of gravel was born the name of the current estate “Tenuta la Ghiaia”.
The vineyard enjoys a strategic position, in a natural amphitheater, nestled between the Apuan Alps and the Gulf of Poets, where the sea breeze and night temperature ranges allow a perfect ripening of the grapes.
The presence of gravel in the subsoil allows the vineyards, through the deep roots, to absorb the main elements and give the wines salinity and minerality.
From a careful selection in the vineyard are born 3 different shades of Vermentino: Tenuta La Ghiaia, Atys and Ithaa, which differ in the age of the vineyards and winemaking techniques.
The other two varieties of wine produced on the Estate are Undicinodi Rosso Doc Colli di Luni and Rosato Igt Liguria Di Levante which are characterized by other strictly autochthonous varieties such as Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo, Canaiolo and Merlot which comes from by an historical vineyard of the 80’s which was used for the experimentation and constitution of the Colli di Luni DOC.
